Prickly Pear Fruit + Pineapple Guava

Prickly pear fruit in a cul-de-sac off Shafter.

Yesterday Monica introduced me to a row- a veritable orchard- of pineapple guava trees off Piedmont Avenue in North Oakland. We also harvested pineapple guava from a row of trees near the Rockridge Public Library. The scent will guide you.

Another little-known spot to pick pineapple guavas is the Kaiser Rooftop Garden on Lakeside in downtown Oakland---it's an incredible spot to visit in general, and has a lot of feijoa trees.

We have pineapple guavas in Concord too. When I was delivering fruit to the Salvation Army Food Pantry, another family brought in guavas. I have yet to find an actual tree, but I'm searching! Keep up the wonderful service.
