Holiday Marmalade and Jam Exchange/ Persimmon Soiree

Hi Everyone,

You are all cordially invited to the Forage Oakland Winter Marmalade and Jam exchange/ Persimmon Soiree on 20 December 2009. Please bring your jams, marmalade, chutneys, and other preserves to 411 51st Street between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. If you have fresh backyard fruit in abundance, you are welcome to bring that as well and barter for preserves (and vice versa).
Ideally, preserves will have been made using surplus backyard fruit.

And let's give three cheers for our generous host Scott!

When: 20 December, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Where: 411 51st Street in North Oakland
RSVP: (510) 289-7557 or forageoakland@gmail.com

If you are in a gift giving mood and looking for the perfect holiday gift, come to the exchange and leave with an armful of jams.

I will be sharing information about Forage Oakland and first steps on how to start your own neighborhood barter project.

This event is free and open to the public.

xoxo,

Autumn Persimmon Event

10:30 am: we three gathered at the corner of 29th and Broadway and harvested hachiya and fuyu persimmons. In exchange, we left the persimmon tree owners a bounty of pineapple guavas.

I am in the process of coordinating a persimmon event for the third week of December, so please do check back in the coming days as the details unfold.

Thank you!!

Prickly Pear Fruit + Pineapple Guava

Prickly pear fruit in a cul-de-sac off Shafter.

Yesterday Monica introduced me to a row- a veritable orchard- of pineapple guava trees off Piedmont Avenue in North Oakland. We also harvested pineapple guava from a row of trees near the Rockridge Public Library. The scent will guide you.

Welcome, Oakland

Forage Oakland activities should resume in the very near future, as I've returned from my sojourn to Italy. It's wonderful to be home, especially just in time for the autumn bounty of persimmons, pears, quince, and pomegranates.

Please do stay tuned for information about Forage Oakland public events in mid-November and December.
